Abstract

This book is about sexual misconduct in everyday academic spaces and the diverse ways sexual misconduct has been experienced, disclosed, silenced and addressed. Sexual misconduct is used here to include a broad range of behaviours, from harassing statements to criminal sexual assault. It may include experiences of sexual harassment, assault and violence. Everyday spaces are those places in an academic setting that are familiar, where people feel safe and comfortable. This may include but is not limited to the classroom, offices, work experience placements, conferences, field trips and fieldwork/research sites and settings. This edited collection brings together numerous voices within academia and the various relations that can involve sexual misconduct, such as staff to student, staff to staff, student to staff, student to student and participant to researcher. It provides an international perspective by drawing on experiences from academics within North America, UK, Germany, India, Australia and several European countries. This broad perspective opens up the various responses to sexual misconduct within academic spaces.
