Abstract

This is a chapter on the liberation theology of Canon Naim Ateek, the Palestinian Anglican theologian. It is part of an edited volume on Anglican Theologians: Postcolonial Pastiche. It's the first critical introduction and contribution that focuses on Naim Ateek’s social-political and cultural contexts. It provides a brief biography and his theological scope, analysing shifts in his thinking, whilst not excluding attention to what he has made known of his political commitments and the effect of that on his writing. This will be a background for an analysis of his use of the bible in engaging the political conflict in Israel/Palestine focusing on two or three key themes in his work and his distinctive contribution.
