Flesh and Mortar is a visual investigation of being with one another, whilst never sharing the same physical space. Located in our own homes we acknowledge these images articulate our lived experiences, despite the oppressions and privileges that home can transmit (Young, 2005).
This visual essay acts as a conversation, as images are sent back and forth. We focus not on artistic production or expectation to respond in a certain way but on care, our evolving relationship and the unpredictability of working intimately with sensitive materials. The images share moments captured through sensitive documentation modes (Black, 2019).
