Abstract

This introduction sets the context for understanding the political involvement and engagement of working class children. It looks at the history of childhood, our understandings of children's roles in society - and how they often challenge these imposed roles by engaging in political movements for change.

This is the introductory chapter to a monograph on the history of school student strikes in Britain.
